As we grow older, we begin to understand the value of a dollar and we learn to really think about how we spend our hard earned money. When we visit the store, it is so tempting to buy that cool little toy that costs $1.25 and that yummy piece of candy for $1.67. Well before you know it, you’ve spent all your $10.00. This last week we learned how our money can grow if we simply save it! In this weeks BLOG, please include why you think it is important to save your money, what happens to your money when you put it in the bank, and list a few items that you think are important to save up for...such as a gift for your sibling, college, a charity donation, a special book, a cool art project, a challenging Lego set, a puzzle, a Wild Animal Park Entrance ticket to name a few. Are you saving for a short term purchase or long term purchase? Do you have a special place where you store your money? I can’t wait to hear from you! Have fun blogging!

we go to the grocery store, planning a design, or while following a
recipe, we are using math. Let me know why you think it's
important to practice basic math skills and what your short-term
goal is to help you build strong basic math skills.

Healthy Choices!
Having a balanced diet is the key to a healthy body! As we have learned, eating healthy takes a lot of self-discipline and self-control. Once you know which foods belong in the different food groups, then you will be able to balance your own diet. Do you know the different food groups? What types of foods are in each food group? Why is it important to your body to have a balanced diet? Please let me know what your own personal diet looks like for a day. Doctors say that exercise and drinking 8 glasses of water a day is a very important part of having a healthy body. Why do you think exercising is important? I hope you have gained a deeper understanding as to why it is important to eat healthy foods every day and to stay away from junk foods that contain a lot of sugar, saturated fat, and toxic chemicals. Grow HEALTHY and STRONG!!! Only you can ultimately decide what goes into your body! Make HEALTHY CHOICES!!!

Summertime Fun
Dear Friends,
This summer was packed filled with fun and excitement! Traveling to Yosemite was definitely a highlight. After about an 8 hour drive through the varied landscapes along highway 5, including the rolling hills of central California, we arrived at Yosemite National Park. It was our 5th annual camping trip at House Keeping camp where we slept in cots, roasted marshmallows, and played in the Merced River. Of course, we searched for wildlife and saw a family of deer, bold blue jay birds, an overabundance of very sneaky squirrels (whom got a little too friendly with Brooke), and believe it or not, a large mama bear strolling past our camp fire just about 15 feet away. The topper for me was climbing boulders all the way to where we could feel the refreshing spray of Yosemite Falls and riding our bikes throughout the glorious valley floor filled with meadows and baby blue butterflies. What a summer! I can't wait for next summer to recapture some of the great memories, this time a year older. I wonder what a year of change will bring. I look forward to hearing all about your summertime highlights. There's nothing like having time to bond with family and friends to sharpen the saw and rejuvenate. Now I am ready for my next thrilling adventure, the new school year! Please add to our blog by writing about your memorable summer! I can't wait to hear all about it!!!!
Warmly,
Mrs. Yates
